Royal mail CIO
The end of last week saw Royal Mail selecting a new CIO to replace Robin Dargue. Taking over from the outgoing Dargue, is former TfL IT boss Yvonne Ferguson.
Earlier this year Royal Mail told silicon.com that Dargue's successor will take charge of Royal Mail's GBP£2 billion technology modernisation project which encompasses new systems, software and equipment across virtually all divisions in the Royal Mail Group. Dargue was appointed to oversee the transformation project in November 2007.
As part of this he has overseen the introduction of 27,000 PDAs across Royal Mail Group and the implementation of the UK's largest wi-fi network. His work around the transformation project contributed to him topping the silicon.com CIO50 list of the UK's 50 most influential heads of IT in 2008.
It was announced in April that Dargue was leaving Royal Mail in order to take up a new role at the networking technology company Alcatel-Lucent.
Integrating Yvonne Ferguson
Ferguson has been working alongside Dargue during the IT transformation project. It is understood that she will be working in the capacity if co-CIO until the end of June when Dargue leaves the company, from there she'll take on the sole role of CIO.
Three quarters of the GBP£2 billion investment plan to transform Royal Mail's operations has now been spent, including a further GBP£500 million invested in the last 12 months in new technology and new equipment for postmen and women, bringing the total to GBP£1.6 billion invested in modernisation since 2006.
